What We Do

The Blacksburg Cave Rescue Group (BCRG) is a group of volunteers with specialized cave rescue training based out of the Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad (BVRS). Our group responds to cave rescues that are typically extended operations that require an organized command structure, physical ability, specialized training, and equipment outside the scope of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) calls. We are deployed locally as well as regionally.

Who we are

The Cave Rescue Group encounters a variety of cave rescue tasks that may include: searching for missing persons, performing semi-technical and technical cave evacuations, underground search management, and assisting in recoveries. Our training includes, but is not limited to: National Cave Rescue Commission (NCRC) trainings of the National Speleological Society (NSS).

BCRG provides prompt cave rescue response by: providing a mechanism to activate cave rescue resources, coordinating specific cave rescue incidents, maintaining an up-to-date list of members and qualifications, and facilitating local cave rescue training and preparedness.

Meetings and Training

For current information on BCRG buisness meetings, feel free to contact us. BCRG attempts to have in-house trainings twice per month that are announced by our training committee. Additionally BCRG attempts to hold a mock cave rescue annually where we try to involve additional local and regional emergency resources to develop joint response efforts.
