Ride Along Program

Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad provides an opportunity for community members and students to participate in a ride-along program to gain a better understanding of working in the emergency medical environment.

Ride-Along’s are scheduled in 4-hour blocks. They must be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance. Cancellations and changes should be made no later than 4 hours prior to your scheduled shift.

Requirements:

  • 18 years of age (16+ if joining junior crew or in EMT class)

  • Must agree to a criminal background check

  • Must have a legitimate reason to ride along

  • You cannot ride more than eight (8) shifts per year

  • Your shift may be canceled or rescheduled due to availability, staffing, etc.

You should arrive on time and plan to leave immediately following your shift. We may get a call at the very end of your shift. You should leave at least 2 hours after the shift before you need to be anywhere. When you arrive, come to the front lobby at the corner of Progress St and Patrick Henry Dr. Ring the doorbell (yellow button on the wall), and someone will bring you in. You will be issued a visitor badge that identifies you as part of BVRS while you are participating in the ride-along.

You are expected to be dressed professionally. This includes long pants (no yoga pants) and closed-toe shoes (no sandals, flip flops, etc). If you are not dressed appropriately, you will be sent home. Look professional.
